What I want to know is: Why can't they just sell you this pump when you buy the 18' Intex pool? It is clearly the pump for that size pool, the one that came with the pool was borderline useless. This one has the power to actually circulate the water and clean the pool - the fiters are bigger too, so don't need to be replaced once a week like the smaller ones. If you have a 18' pool and are still using the pump that came with it, just buy this one now, and stop wasting your time with that "1500" and those "A" filters.

2500 Gallon Per Hour Intex Replacement Filter Pump w/ Hoses
The original pump that came with our 12 ft pool couldn't keep the pool clean if it ran constantly. I bought another one from Aqua Leisure which worked great but it sets horizontally and leaked(not a good design). So I kept tightening and tightening the lid but it continued to leak. Finally the cap broke because I tightened too tight. So I bought this pump. It is fabulous, it really moves the water.
I read the reviews on the adapters and didn't order them initially. I tried to get some kind of adapter locally. Pool supply places didn't carry anything because they don't deal with these inexpensive above ground pools. My local hardware put something together for me but it didn't work. You have to have a special kind of connector. PVC connections don't work. So against the advise of all the reviews on the adapters I went ahead and ordered them.
Well you can't believe all the reviews I guess. These connectors hooked up so easy and not even a tiny leak. There are the adaptors and the plunger valves in a set. It won't work without the valves. Plus they add their own convenience. No more trying to cover the holes while you change the filter. They are shut off valves. How cool is that? The information with the adaptors said to check and recheck. So I was worried. But no problemo. They work great. I have no idea why the other reviewers couldn't make these work. I did it and I am a girl!
Oh yeah, the pump works great! Just don't forget the adaptors and valves to go with it.

The pump was delivered promptly and provided a complete kit when I expected the pump only. Great bargain! I installed the pump immediately and it has worked great ever since. My pool is now much cleaner due to the higher capacity of the pump. I recoment anyone using the Intex 1000 gph pump replace it with the 2500 gph pump. The 1000 gph pump is manufactured very poorly and can destroy itself in a second if any dirt gets into it.

I would have given this pump a 5 star review except that it took some work on my part to make it stop leaking. the grey plastic ring that screws in place to hold the cartridge cover was poorly finished and had some sharp lumps that prevented it from making a seal. while I am sure that I could have exchanged this if willing to take the time and effort to do so, I did not want to go that much longer without a filter! I was able to (1) smooth out the surface of the ring where it met with the cartridge cover and (2) add an o-ring (bought at Lowes) and some silicone grease to improve the seal. it was disappointing that it did not work properly right out of the box, but aside from this issue it has been a great pump. two months later, still leak free and so quiet!

I love the pump. I was using the ones size smaller last year and when i plugged it in this year it was not working. I had to replace it and was going to go with the same one but decided to go one size bigger. What a difference. It moves so much more water and makes vacuuming much quicker and easier. The pool water is moving so much more through the pump and keeping the water cleaner that i spend less time and chemicals trying to keep it clean. The only thing i would recommend if you order it and dont already have it is to get the stiffer hoses for your skimmer. If my vacuum is plugging up a little or just not moving enough water it will collapse the hose from the skimmer to the outlet valve.
That is a minor problem.. I love the pump
